About Lawrence

Lawrence Grau Sundström is a Swedish-Mexican artist working across painting and poetry.

Practice

Working primarily with watercolour, ink and oil-based media, Lawrence moves between figurative and abstract forms, creating paintings that explore inner landscapes, memory, nature and imagined worlds.

His practice is rooted in a long-standing relationship with watercolour, expanded through experimentation with different surfaces and materials, including cotton and linen canvas. He combines watercolour with ink, pigments and oil-based materials, allowing the work to shift between transparency, intensity and physical texture.

His paintings often emerge intuitively, as figures, landscapes and organic forms appear and transform. The recognisable and the imagined meet in images of the human body, the natural world and spaces between the two.
